1. If you were asked to write a story where one of the major supporting characters in Batman dies, who would it be and why? Gordon, no Dick... ****... I can't decide. Actually, it never even crossed my mind. I like the supporting cast too much. 2. What's the greatest challenge in being a Batman writer? Doing good comics. Seriously. If you consider all that has been done
with this character, it can overwhelm you. So it's a big challenge to try
to do something good that at least feels new. I also feel like it's a
challenge to give some more depth to Bruce and some heart to Batman. >>Aside from "Deadenders" and "Batman," are there other comics projects you're working on (i.e. what are you going to do post-"Batman")? Well, I'm already hard at work on my regular Catwoman gig, which is
going to blow everyone away. I can't reveal anything about it yet, but
there are some big things on the horizon for me and Catwoman and some big
changes too. Do you find it more fun to work w/ super heroes, or to do something more "Vertigo"? Neither is more fun, they are just different. I'm not a huge superhero
fan, but I just look at each story on its own terms, and go from there. I
don't think of Deadenders or Scene of the crime as being very Vertigo, but
then, Vertigo is just changing a lot. |

I think the craziest Batman thing I ever heard from Ed was that he wanted to change the costume. If that happens, comics will have truly gone sour. Changing classic costumes like Batman and Superman's when not changing back to the original quickly would be even worse than all those T&A books which shall remain nameless (WITCHBLADE!!!!!!!!!!!!! DANGER GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!). Dear DC, Don't change the costumes, or else. |

I had forgotten about your upcoming "Catwoman" work. But that story w/ Brian Talbot sound cool! I liked one 2 parter Talbot did in LOTDK called "Masks" that was pretty nifty. |

My favorite comics are things like Jimmy Corrigan and Eightball, usually. I come from alternative comics, and love them. All of you should go out and buy Hickesville, it'll change your lives. In mainstream comics, my faves are: Authority A lot of others, like Kane, which isn't really mainstream. I work about 4 to 10 hours a day, depending on deadlines and personal commitments, like my wife and this Batchat. My craziest idea was the aforementioned shedding of the costume. I
think superhero costumes are stupid and outdated, on the whole. Of them,
Batman's current duds are the least offensive, but I think of the TV show
Angel as looking like what Batman would on TV, and if he had a dumb
costume, it wouldn't work. I would have him in some kind of mask still,
but not what it currently is. I can't wait for you to see our Catwoman
revamp. |

going on after Brian's run. I may come back. I may not. But I'll be around

This is definately the best era of Batman. Ed, Greg, and the rest, with lots of good artists (like Scott!). |

Just Greg. I've spoken with all of the others, though. Just today we had a big conference call with all the writers and editors. |
